Basrah University organizes a scientific field trip to gravel and sand quarries and screening laboratory in Zubair district

The Department of geoscience at the college of science at the University of Basrah organized a scientific field trip for students of the course of Economic Geology (c315) to gravel and sand quarries and screening laboratory in Zubair district under the supervision of teaching Masters A.M.Dr. Safaa Hussein Ali and A.M.D. by the name of Hamid Sultan and M.Dr. Shaima Khaled Kazem and M.M. sacrificed Saleh Abdul Hussein. The purpose of the trip was to enhance the applied aspect of the students through field acquaintance with the mechanism of the formation of sand–gravel deposits, the implementation of field modeling steps of rock layers, as well as identifying the types of rocks and geological structures in the region. The program also included a visit to the screening laboratory to get acquainted with the sorting and processing mechanisms of gravel and sand, and to get acquainted with the stages of processing raw materials for engineering and construction use. The program also included practical training on calculating the stripping Ratio of deposits, because of the importance of this process in assessing the economic feasibility of extraction operations in quarries. The field activities concluded with a quick field test to measure the level of students ' understanding of the skills and field knowledge they have acquired, and to strengthen the link between the theoretical and applied aspects of geological studies.
