The Physics Department at the College of Science at the University of Basra held a welcome ceremony for first-year students, with the participation of a number of the department's teaching staff. The head of the department, Prof. Wael Abdul Latif Kadimi, gave a speech welcoming the new students, emphasizing the importance of commitment to serious academic study and taking advantage of the scientific environment provided by the department. Several physics professors also gave introductory speeches to familiarize students with the nature of the program and the scientific opportunities available, in an atmosphere that supported and encouraged students to have a successful start to their studies
