The Women's Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit and the Student Activities Division at the College of Science, organized a seminar entitled "Between Sports and the Laboratory: The Role of Hormones in Weight and Metabolism Control."
The seminar aimed to familiarize attendees with the pivotal role of hormones in regulating metabolic processes and to highlight the close relationship between physical activity and laboratory results. It also addressed key hormones such as insulin, glucagon, cortisol, testosterone, and thyroid hormones.
The seminar, presented by Ms. Tabarak Saeed Yaqoub, a faculty member at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Basra, included an introduction to the practical value of laboratory analyses in monitoring athletes and understanding their bodies' responses to exercise. This fosters integration between sports science and medical laboratory science.
The lecturer recommended the necessity of conducting periodic hormone tests before engaging in physical exercise.
