The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a seminar on the biological treatment of wastewater contaminated with petroleum and oily compounds using bacteria that produce the enzyme lipase.
The seminar, presented by Master's student Zainab Qais Hamid, aimed to address the biological treatment of oil pollution using bacteria that produce the enzyme lipase and to improve the environmental conditions and nutritional factors for these bacteria in order to increase lipase production.
The seminar also discussed the applications of the enzyme lipase and the important environmental role played by the bacteria that produce it.
The seminar recommended extracting lipase from active bacterial isolates for use in the medical and cosmetic fields as an alternative to chemical cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and for its use in green treatment methods instead of traditional, environmentally harmful practices.
