The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a workshop on natural and geological reserves.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of geological reserves in conjunction with the International Day for Geological Diversity, sponsored by UNESCO and observed annually on October 6th.

The workshop, presented by Dr. Basim Hamid Sultan, a faculty member in the Department of Earth Sciences at the College of Science, included an introduction to this international occasion and Iraq's role in it. It also addressed the topic of natural reserves, their scientific and environmental importance, the reasons for their establishment, their types, and with a focus on geological reserves.
