The College of Science, Department of Mathematics, held a seminar entitled "Necessary Conditions for Extremizing Fractional Variational Problems and its Generalization" for postgraduate student Aoun G. Kareem. The seminar presents a derivation of the necessary conditions for extremizing fractional variational problems composed of Caputo fractional derivatives or Riemann-Liouville fractional integrals. These necessary conditions are called the fractional Euler-Lagrange equations. Moreover, generalizations of the obtained fractional Euler-Lagrange equations are given for multi-fractional or integer-order derivatives.
