University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Lecture on Breast Cancer Awareness

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture on the individual's immune status and the risk of developing breast cancer.

The lecture, presented by Dr. Maha Al-Mashri (Master's Degree), explained that the immune system plays a dual role in cancer: it can contribute to fighting it or, in some cases, to supporting its growth.

The lecture also discussed how, in breast cancer, the interaction between cancer cells and the surrounding immune environment (tumor microenvironment) is a crucial factor in disease progression and response to treatment. The lecture aimed to demonstrate that a good understanding of this relationship helps in designing immunotherapy strategies and enhancing the chances of recovery or disease control. The lecture also recommended the necessity of continuous health awareness regarding the care of our immune system, given its importance in preventing and overcoming cancerous diseases. Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of keeping abreast of scientific developments and ongoing academic research on cancer treatments, particularly immunological ones, published in international journals.
