Basrah University organizes a seminar on studying the compressibility of fully and partially saturated clay soils in selected locations from the city of Babylon

The Department of geoscience at the college  of science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on the study of the compressibility of fully and partially saturated clay soils, an experimental study and numerical modeling of the initial joining with the change of the permeability coefficient in selected locations of the city of Hilla. The seminar aimed at characterizing the physical and engineering characteristics of the selected depths (3 m), comparing the behavior of soils with total saturation and partial saturation, analyzing the impact of the groundwater level on subsidence, comparing the results of numerical modeling with laboratory results and providing engineering recommendations to reduce subsidence. The seminar was attended by doctoral student samehr Amer Reza .The study included the physical properties and it was found that the soil of the study area sees alluvial clay with low plasticity CL to high plasticity CH. the geometric properties are V, mv, pc, Cc, Cs, eo, higher in soils with total saturation, while k, Eo, cv, were higher in soils with partial saturation and the results of numerical modeling using the plaxis 3D program were identical to the laboratory results in the calculation of subsidence
