The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basrah, organized the 10th National Conference on Environment and Natural Resources, held over two days, October 29-30, 2025, under the slogan "Protecting Our Environment, Conserving Our Water, Securing Our Food for a Sustainable Future."

The conference was inaugurated in the presence of the President of the University of Basrah, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Haider Khazal Mahbas, the Dean of the College of Science, Dr. Ali Abdul-Imam Abdul-Zahra, and a number of deans, faculty members, specialists, and researchers from Iraqi universities and colleges within the University of Basrah, as well as representatives from governmental institutions and environmental organizations.

The conference aimed to discuss climate change, pollution, biodiversity, desertification, greening, water, and natural resources.

The conference included research presentations from within and outside Iraq, including Arab and foreign countries, covering various environmental disciplines such as agriculture, sustainable environment, biology, health, and society. The President of the University delivered an opening speech in which he explained the University’s support for sound scientific research. For his part, the Assistant Scientific Director stated that the University seeks to exchange experiences from around the world and expand the horizons of international scientific cooperation. The Dean of the College stated that the College is proceeding with its measures to protect the environment, preserve its natural resources, and achieve sustainable development by supporting faculty members and their research to work in state departments concerned with environmental protection.
