The University of Basra organizes a scientific discussion session on (Plastic Pollution and Contemporary Environmental Challenges... A Global Crisis and a Shared Responsibility)

The College of Science in Basra organized a popular panel discussion on "Plastic Pollution and Contemporary Environmental Challenges... A Global Crisis and Shared Responsibility."

The panel discussion, presented by Afak Mahdi Jabr, a researcher, addressed plastic pollution as one of the most serious contemporary problems. Humanity produces millions of tons of plastic, only a small portion of which is reused, while the rest remains in natural environments such as oceans, rivers, soil, and air.
Non-biodegradable plastic has been used for centuries in the film "Alchemy," which has led to its embodiment and a significant and correct choice.
Plastic materials break down over time into tiny particles, including microplastics and nanoplastics, which can enter food chains and reach humans via horse feed and the air. This panel discusses the growing problem of plastic pollution affecting the environment and humans, highlighting its most prominent sources, its rapid impact on health, and highlighting the importance of taking effective measures to prevent its spread. It also specializes in raising awareness and teamwork that contribute to protecting the environment for future generations. The lecturer recommended reducing single-use plastic, activating recycling programs at the local and national levels, developing laws and legislation that limit the production and import of non-recyclable plastic materials, imposing fines on violators, spreading environmental awareness through schools and universities, and providing many incentives to reduce its cost for development.
