The college of science at the Department of geoscience organized a scientific symposium entitled: "International Day of geological diversity ((understanding the earth to protect the future))
This seminar aims to highlight the importance of geological diversity as one of the main pillars for understanding our planet and conserving its natural resources. The symposium also seeks to spread awareness about the close relationship between geology, the environment and sustainable development, and enhance the role of scientific research in protecting the geological heritage of Iraq and the world. The seminar included several themes, most notably : introducing the concept of geological diversity and its environmental and economic dimensions, highlighting the role of geologists in managing natural resources, reducing environmental risks, reviewing unique geological models in Iraq, discussing ways to protect them, encouraging cooperation between academic institutions and environmental authorities in the fields of research and awareness, as well as enhancing student awareness of the importance of preserving geological heritage and linking it to the principles of sustainability.
