The College of Science organizes a workshop on environmental factors and their impact

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop on the impact of some environmental factors on biodiversity and their environmental repercussions.

The workshop aimed to highlight the most important factors leading to the collapse of biodiversity.

The workshop, presented by Dr. Raghad Zidan Khalaf and Dr. Suhad Abdul-Sada Taha, lecturers in the Department of Ecology, and with the participation of members of the Basra Governorate Education Directorate, covered biodiversity, its types, and its environmental, economic, heritage, and cultural importance. It also outlined the four plant groups, how they originate and develop, and the ecological succession of these groups after the deterioration of the vegetation cover due to natural environmental disturbances or human activities.

The workshop recommended the need to raise awareness of environmental hazards and the risk of species extinction, establish nature reserves, and support organizations and research aimed at preserving biodiversity.
