The College of Science organizes a workshop on desertification: an environmental crisis

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop on desertification and plant diversity, an environmental crisis that threatens the future of life.

The workshop aimed to identify the effects of climate change on biodiversity, land degradation, and the transformation of land into barren deserts.

The workshop, presented by Dr. Widad Mazban Taher, a lecturer in the Department of Ecology, introduced desertification and its natural causes, such as climate and human changes, and its negative effects on biodiversity and the loss of many plant species.

The workshop recommended paying attention to agricultural lands and using agricultural rotations to avoid and maintain vegetation cover. It also recommended protecting wildlife from encroachment to preserve plant and animal biodiversity.
