The College of Science Organizes a Workshop on Microbial Contamination and its Impact on Public Health for School Students

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop on microbial contamination and its impact on school students.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of microbial contamination in food and water, its sources, its effects on public health, and how to prevent it among educational cadres working for the General Directorate of Education in Basra Governorate.

The workshop, presented by Dr. Mustafa Abdul Wahab Najm and Dr. Nasser Abdullah Helou, instructors in the Department of Environmental Science, covered the main sources of microbial contamination in food and water in schools, the types of pollutants and their health effects, microbial contamination in water, the most important pathogens transmitted through it, and how to monitor and treat water quality to prevent the spread of pathogens and protect public health.

The workshop recommended monitoring the types of food sold to students in schools and educating students about the dangers of microbial contamination and how to prevent it.
