The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on assessing the water quality of the Shatt al-Basra Canal using water pollution indicators.
The seminar, presented by master's student Zahraa Jassim Muhammad, aimed to identify the importance of the Shatt al-Basra Canal and the impact of pollution on its environment and water quality.
The seminar addressed the most important environmental factors measured in the canal, the extreme results recorded, and the use of environmental indicators for water quality and pollution.
The seminar recommended the need for government attention, including diverting all sewage pipes and openings from the Shatt al-Basra Canal to routes located beyond the regulator, activating wastewater treatment plants, and establishing additional plants for the city of Basra.
