The College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed the doctoral thesis entitled (Detection of AmpC genes in bacterial isolates from clinical samples in Basrah Governorate, Iraq) for the doctoral student Batool Tariq Safi. The study aims to detect the prevalence of AmpC genes and the frequency of plasmid mutation of these genes by studying the plasmid protein sequence map of AmpC genes in the isolated bacteria. The study included 150 clinical samples to detect antibiotic resistance genes in the isolates through genetic screening tests. The study concluded that 5 out of 13 isolates had the new global DHA gene and 3 out of 7 isolates had the new global CIT gene. The study recommended implementing strict antibiotic prescribing policies and expanding the scope of genomic studies to track the spread of resistance genes and discover new mutations.
