The Department of Ecology organizes a seminar on gray mangrove cultivation

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the environmental factors affecting the growth and survival of the gray mangrove (Avicennia marina) in the Shatt al-Arab.

The seminar, presented by master's student Ali Abbas Fadhel, aimed to evaluate the suitability of different sites for mangrove cultivation and study growth and survival rates.

The seminar addressed pollution as one of the most prominent obstacles to cultivation, as well as the impact of environmental factors of water and soil on gray mangrove growth rates, highlighting the success of the southern Al-Faw site.

The seminar recommended planting mangroves on the banks of the Shatt al-Arab, south of Al-Faw, treating wastewater, cleaning the waterways, and conducting further studies to expand future experiments.
