The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop on wastewater types and treatment methods. The workshop aimed to introduce wastewater, its most prominent physical, chemical, and biological characteristics, its types, and the most important traditional and advanced treatment methods.
The workshop, presented by Inas Awni Mahdi Al-Nabhan, a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Sciences, explained the mechanics of each treatment and its goal of removing various pollutants.
She recommended the need to monitor the quality and characteristics of untreated wastewater and to find environmentally friendly methods for treating it before discharging it into water bodies due to the scarcity of fresh water and the increased pressure on water supplies caused by increasing population density and the expansion of various industrial operations.
