
The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the diversity and spread of contaminated fungi in some dry foods and their secretion of mycotoxins.
The seminar, presented by graduate student Saja Akab Yousef, aimed to study microbial contamination of dry foods, including nuts.
The seminar addressed the increased human consumption of dry foods, including nuts, which are exposed to numerous pollutants, including fungal contamination and the secretion of mycotoxins. The negative impact on human health, economic damage, and the spoilage of nuts, as well as their impact on their quality, was also addressed. The seminar also explored the factors that facilitate the spread of fungi and their secretion of mycotoxins in nuts.
