The Physics Department at the College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed the doctoral thesis of researcher Sattar Hussein Abdul Hassan Al-Awadi, entitled "Photocatalysis of Metal Oxides: Alternative Sources for Sustainable Energy." The thesis included the preparation and characterization of four metal oxide nanocomposites using experimental and theoretical techniques. The study aimed to evaluate their effectiveness in photocatalysis and the treatment of organic pollutants. The thesis concluded that the compounds CuAl₂O₄, V₂O₅, Fe2O3, and MgSnO2 showed the highest degradation efficiency of 85% in 120 minutes, supported by theoretical results with an agreement of 82%, confirming their feasibility in sustainable energy applications.
