The University of Basrah held a PhD thesis defense on nitrogenous organic compounds

The thesis entitled “Synthesis of Nitrogenous Organic Compounds Coordinated with some Important Transition Metals and their Study as Anti-cancer Activity”

Hold at the College of Science, Chemistry Department. The presenter (Haneen Fadhil Abbas).

Demonstrates the most important objectives of studying (Preparation of Schiff bases derived from β-hydroxy naphthaldehyde and azo compounds derived from β-naphthol, and studying the effect of hydrogen bonding on the Schiff base ligands. Preparation of copper, nickel, and cobalt complexes using these ligands, and investigation of the biological activity of the copper complexes as anti-breast cancer agents).

The results were reached (Synthesis of Schiff base ligands from the condensation reaction of aniline derivatives with β-hydroxy naphthaldehyde, and synthesis of azo dye ligands from the reaction of diazonium salts with β-naphthol. Preparation of copper, nickel, and cobalt complexes of these ligands, and determination of the crystal structure of one of the complexes)

The study recommends (Preparation of complexes of other transition metals from these compounds and evaluation of their biological activity as antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral agents. Acylation of the synthesized azo ligands, and determination of the crystal structures of the prepared complexes).
