The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the impact of climate impacts on water quality in the Shatt al-Arab River.
The seminar, presented by student Zaman Hassan Hashim, aimed to demonstrate the impact of climate change on water quality indicators in the Shatt al-Arab River.
The seminar examined the qualitative characteristics of surface water and near-bottom water at five selected stations along the Shatt River.
The study revealed that the Shatt al-Arab River suffers from a lack of water supplies, high salinity and electrical conductivity, and heavy metal contamination. These factors have contributed to a decrease in dissolved oxygen concentrations.
The study recommended strengthening monitoring systems and water resource management within the framework of climate adaptation.
