The Department of ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the importance of applying the Water Quality Index in monitoring and evaluating water resources, with the Shatt al-Arab as a model.
The seminar, presented by graduate student Nuha Ali Mohsen, aimed to derive standard specifications for some important environmental factors specific to the Shatt al-Arab, based on international scientific methods. The seminar aimed to apply these standards to a suitable water quality index, which would serve as a specific guide for monitoring and evaluating the environmental status of the Shatt al-Arab.
The seminar also addressed proposed locations for installing fixed hydrological stations that would operate within short-term monitoring periods, and identified the type and number of environmental factors to be monitored continuously, based on their importance.
