The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the effects of petroleum compounds on plants.
The session, which was lectured by graduate student/master's degree Fatima Ihsan Kazim, aimed to explain the effects of hydrocarbon compounds on plants, which lead to fruit falling and deformities, reduce their productivity and quality, and affect plant growth.
The study addressed the negative effects of compounds on plants, including dwarfing of the plant, deformation of leaf shapes and yellowing, and reduces the plant's ability to photosynthesize, thus affecting the reduction of its biomass and the death of plants at high concentrations.
