College of Science organizes a workshop on assessing air pollution and industrial activities

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop on assessing air pollution emitted from some industrial activities in Basra Governorate and the techniques used to treat and reduce the concentrations of emitted pollutants.

The workshop aimed to explain air pollution, its sources and causes, including population growth, traffic congestion, industrial expansion, lack of environmental awareness and weak implementation of environmental laws.

The workshop, which was lectured by Dr. Naif Mohsen Aziz and Mr. Abbas Thajil Obaid, lecturers in the Department of Ecology, included a statement of various techniques to reduce pollutants and the need to strengthen Iraqi environmental legislation, intensify control over industrial facilities and activate cooperation between academic and environmental bodies to improve air quality in the governorate.

The workshop recommended coordination between environmental, industrial and academic bodies and evaluating the treatment techniques used in industrial facilities and working to develop them according to the latest environmental standards.
