Dr. Afaq Mahdi Jabr, a lecturer at the College of Science at the University of Basra, participated in the conference (Protecting Iraqi Women is Your Responsibility) held by Anana Media Agency in coordination with the Women's Affairs Department at the Ministry of Trade in Baghdad.
The conference deals with the issues of Iraqi women as they are a main focus of Iraqi society. The lecturer's participation aims to present a research paper entitled (Empowering Women as a Gateway to Social Change and Protecting Them from Violence) in which she explained the importance of economic empowerment for women, providing them with job opportunities, and arming them with science and knowledge to be a support to themselves and their families.
The conference included several axes discussing the current status of women, identifying their most prominent problems, developing essential solutions, and clarifying women's rights in law and Sharia, as well as appropriate ways to raise the level of education for women to be a helping hand for their male brothers in all aspects of life. A number of women activists in the field of women's rights, university professors from all over Iraq, novelists, storytellers, and a number of Iraqi women participated in the conference, explaining the importance of women's role in building a healthy and sound family to ensure a prosperous future for Iraq.
