The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the removal of heavy metals from the waters of the Ashar River in Basra using extracts of some local plants.
The seminar, in which student Sajjad Faisal Marei lectured, aimed to study the physicochemical properties of the Ashar River water in multiple stations and reduce the concentrations of heavy metals from the water by using extracts of some local plants to get rid of these metals.
The seminar dealt with the use of two types of local plants and extracting the compounds in the laboratory and testing their efficiency in removing heavy metals from the waters of the Ashar River.
The seminar recommended the use of plants in the field of environmental treatment of water pollution and expanding the study of local rivers in the city of Basra as they suffer from poor water quality.
