The University of Basrah organizes a seminar entitled (Plasmid colistin resistance to Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria in Basra Governorate)

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Plasmid mediated colistin resistance among carbapenem resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae from clinical samples in AL_Basrah Governorate , Iraq) by the graduate student Dhuha Hassan Abdul-Wahab The study aims to Detection  of colistin resistance among K.pneumonia in Al_Basrah Governorate, and detection of prevalence of carpenemase-producing, colistin-resistance K.pneumoniae  and included reactivating and confirming the identity of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria from clinical samples (urate, wounds, sputum) and searching for its resistance to a group of beta-lactam antibiotics, including carbapenem antibiotics, and detecting colistin resistance. The study searched for beta-lactamase genes (SHV,TEM, and CTX_M) , carbapenemase resistance genes (KPC,VIM, and NDM), and colistin resistance genes carried on the plasmid (mcr1,mcr2, and mcr3), and the study was recommended

1_The emergence of high resistance to extended-spectrum beta-lactams (ESBLs) and carbapenemase enzymes in this study and other previous studies calls for attention to employing prevention and control strategies, especially in the hospital environment, to prevent the spread of resistance.

2_Approval of the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the diagnosis of bacteria that produce carbapenemase enzymes and extended-spectrum beta-lactam enzymes (ESBLs) .

3_The need for further studies to track the spread of colistin resistance throughout Iraq and Basra Governorate.
