The University of Basrah hold a seminar on Estimation of the Radioactive pollution.

The presenter Karar Matouq Sadiq demonstrates the most important objectives of study This study aims to determine the level of radioactive contamination in groundwater and the risks associated with Th-232, U-238, and K-40 radionuclide concentrations. Samples from several locations were collected in the western Basra city. The study's primary goals are to assess natural radioactivity, its impact on human health, and the degree of radiation exposure. We conclude from all the obtained values for U-238 and Th- 232 is within the permissible limits. While we notice there is a variation and an increase in the concentration of potassium-40 from one region to another, the reason is due to the fact that most areas are used in agriculture and the use of fertilizers that increase the percentage of K-40 in those areas.
