The College of Science organizes a seminar on petroleum hydrocarbons and biodiversity

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the impact of hydrocarbon pollution Oil on plant biodiversity.

The seminar, in which graduate/master’s student Nour Amer Salman lectured, aimed to study plant biodiversity, various environmental disturbances, and the deterioration and extinction of plant cover due to the spread, extraction, and burning of oil in different parts of Qurna district.

The study dealt with an environmental survey of terrestrial plants in the Qurna district, assessing the factors affecting plant biodiversity, and the use of some plants as accumulators of petroleum hydrocarbons.
