A doctoral thesis in Damat Basrah examining the preparation of a database on submerged and visible sunken boats in the Shatt al-Arab using marine geophysical survey techniques.

Researched a doctoral thesis at the College of Science at the University of Basra entitled Preparing a database on submerged and visible sunken sunkens in the Shatt al-Arab using marine geophysical survey techniques. This study, presented by the researcher Ahmed Abu Al-Hail Hussein, aims to prepare a database on the large sunken and visible sunken sunkens in the Shatt al-Arab and Finding their environmental and morphological effects on the quality of water and sediments collected near these sinkholes. The study concluded that there are approximately 70 unrecovered sinkholes that are fully or partially submerged and of large sizes. The distribution of these sinkholes is largely concentrated in the area between Al-Maqal Port and Abu Flus Port. The study recommended many necessary recommendations, most notably the need to implement a comprehensive and serious plan to remove these sinkholes from the main riverbed and the subsidiary rivers connected to it, and periodically monitor the changes that these sinkholes cause in the geomorphological shape of the river bank as a result of the increase in sediments and their accumulation near these sinkholes.
