The College of Science organizes a workshop on fish diversity

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop on fish diversity in the intertidal zone in the Shatt al-Arabi estuary, northwest of the Arabian Gulf.

The workshop aimed to identify the fish species that are introduced to the tidal mudflats of the Iraqi sea coasts and to explain their fishing methods and their commercial importance.

The workshop, in which Dr. Adel Fadel Abbas lectured, included an explanation of some of the important characteristics of the Arabian Gulf, especially the tidal flats of the northwestern part of it and their very great importance for feeding fish populations.

The workshop recommended that greater efforts be made for broader and more comprehensive studies on other biological communities in the tidal flats region.
