The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Active compounds of the Malvaceae family and evaluation of their medical role) by the graduate /PhD student (Sadeq Sabeeh Kareem)The study aims to know the active compounds found in plants belonging to the Malvaceaefamily, which is considered one of the most widely distributed plant families , The most important of these plants are (Malva, Alcea, Hibiscus, , Abelmoschus and Gossypium) . The role of active compounds (phenols, alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, resins) were reported ,it is found in the roots, stems, leaves, flowers and seeds of these plants, which have an important medical role, and which can be antimicrobials such as Hibiscus sabdariffa, anti-inflammatory and Antioxidants and laxatives, Althaea rosea, and diuretics, H. rosa-sinensis and regulate blood sugar levels, such as M. parviflora and regulate blood pressure, A. indicum, H. sabdariffa, and anti-cancers, G. herbaceum.
