The University of Basrah organizes a seminar entitled (The effect of sleeve gastrectomy on liver functions and the concentration of some intestinal hormones)

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Assessment the effect of sleeve gastrectomy on liver functions and some gastrointestinal hormones), by the graduate student (Rafida M.AL-Amiri ).The study aims to evaluate the changes of body mass index and the physiological and metabolic changes of liver after sleeve gastrectomy, and investigate the effect of surgery on the level of Ghrelin, Leptin and (GLP-1) hormones for patients with morbid obesity and included that there was a significant decrease in BMI and a significant increase in TSB. The current study reported that there was a significant decrease in the levels of the liver enzymes ALT and AST, as well as ALP, a significant increase in the measurement of PT, INR, and a significant decrease in the levels of ghrelin, leptin, and GLP-1. The results of histological observation also indicated that the latest study indicated the normal histological structure of the stomach, and the study was recommended, to perform liver function tests and coagulation profile before surgery and follow-up. Conduct in-depth future research to focus on changes that happen in Ghrelin, Leptin, and GLP-1 for longer duration [possibly more than one year].
