The University of Basra organizes a seminar on (Types of viral hepatitis A, B, C,D,E)

The College of Science at the University of Basra joined a panel discussion on (Types of Viral Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E) By graduate student Nour Aqeel Khairi

The study included research into the importance of the liver and its enzymes, as the liver is exposed to many pathogens, including fungi, bacteria, protozoa, and genetic diseases. The most important of these pathogens are viruses that cause viral hepatitis.

There are five types of these viruses: (A, B, C, D, E). B and C are considered the most dangerous types because they cause cirrhosis of the liver, which leads to liver cancer. Other types A and E are less dangerous, and recovery is self-limiting as it depends on the immunity of the infected person. Type D is closely related to type B, as no person is infected with viral hepatitis D unless he is infected with viral hepatitis B.

The research also touched on the most important serological diagnostic methods ELISA It is an enzymatic immunological technique that enables the detection of the interaction between an antigen and an antibody, and molecular diagnostic methods, the most important of which is the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which is a widely used technique for copying parts of DNA.
