The College of Science organizes a workshop on the ecosystem in nature

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop entitled “Wasps and their importance in the ecosystem”

The workshop aimed to identify the ecosystem in nature, the most important families of wasps, and the extent of their environmental, economic, and medical importance.

The workshop, which was lectured by Dr. Zainab Fadel Mansour and Dr. Shorouk Abdullah Najm, included learning about the importance of wasps in the ecosystem and their role as vital enemies of many agricultural pests and the economic importance of some species as they are agricultural pests, predators and parasites of harmful insects.

The workshop recommended the need to conduct extensive taxonomic, phenotypic and genetic studies for all wasp families throughout Iraq and register new species to determine the ideal species that can be used in biological pest control programs.
