The College of Science organizes a seminar on air quality and gas flaring

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the sources and impact of associated gas burning on air quality and the techniques used in measurement.

The seminar, in which graduate student - Master’s student Hussein Talib Kharibish lectured, aims to determine the quality and quantity of pollutants emitted from burning gas associated with oil production using satellite data and field measurements and their impact on air quality in Basra Governorate.

The episode touched on a detailed explanation of the methods for measuring air pollutants, the importance of each method, and the link between the methods to obtain the best results for determining pollution in the region and having them approved by the official authorities, and drawing maps using “GIS” that show the different patterns of distribution of pollutants and the concentrations of those pollutants in the study area.
