The Department of Geology at the College of Science at the University of Basrah organized the first scientific symposium on seismic sciences for the period from February 22 to 23, 2023 in the conference hall of our college, in cooperation with the universities of Anbar and Baghdad. The symposium dealt with topics of seismic monitoring networks in Iraq, seismic monitoring laboratories, analysis of seismic monitoring data, updating the earthquake index, updating the seismic risk map, and updating the seismic construction coefficient. The symposium also dealt with topics to introduce the seismic monitoring networks and their distribution locations in Iraq belonging to the seismic monitoring laboratories of the participating universities, as well as introducing the most important studies carried out by Iraqi researchers.
