The University of Basrah organizes a seminar entitled (Effect of Abiotic stress to Production of Alkaloids Vincristine and Vinblastine by In vitro )

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Effect of Abiotic stress on the Production of Anticancer Vincristine and Vinblastine from Catharanthus roseus(L.)G.Don Plant In vitro) by the graduate student Zainab Abdul Wahid Saeed. The study aimed to Induce callus from leaves of Catharnthus roseus by using different auxins and cytokinins to determine the most effective phytohormone combination for callus formation and proliferation. Proliferated calli were subjected to different abiotic stress using [sodium chloride salt (NaCl), polyethylene glycol (PEG), silver Nano nitrate, Jasmonic acid, Salicylic acid, and tryptophan] in order to enhance the production of anti-cancer alkaloids (Vincristine and Vinblastine).  the study recommended conducting more experiments by using different abiotic and biotic stress agents in order to increase the production of anti-cancer alkaloid compounds. The study also recommended using interactions between stress agents to see their effects on the production of alkaloid compounds. Further, the present study recommends investigating the effectiveness of callus extraction on cancer cell lines.
