A teacher from the University of Basrah participates in a discussion at the University of Kirkuk

Assistant Professor Dr. Sattar Jabbar Al-Khafaji participated as one of the members of the discussion committee for the master’s student, Sattam Yassin, which was entitled: The environmental impacts of civil refinery waste in Kirkuk Governorate. The topic of the thesis included the distribution and concentration of heavy elements in the soil near those refineries and determining the levels of pollution with those elements and their impact on human health in the region by measuring pollution factors and determining the degree of their severity.
The study concluded that pollution levels were moderate for some elements and low for others, especially for lead, arsenic and cadmium, and that the sources of pollution were due to industrial activities and the use of fertilizers in those areas. The study recommended the need to install filters inside those refineries and apply laws Improving environmental protection in order to control pollutants and reduce their impact on the elements of the environment.
