The Department of Geology at the College of Science organized a panel discussion entitled (The mineral and chemical determinants of the use of limestone deposits in the Zurbatiya region, eastern Iraq, for the purposes of the cement industry).
The seminar, in which the researcher Ahmed Osama Abdel-Qahar lectured, aimed at a mineral, chemical, and petrographic study of limestone rocks of different formations in the Zerbatia region, and its evaluation of the ordinary Portland cement industry, in addition to conducting chemical and physical tests for the clinker produced. 

The study included conducting mineral, chemical and petrographic examinations of limestone rocks for the purposes of initial evaluation and comparing their properties with the requirements of raw materials required for the manufacture of ordinary cement. Cement) minerally, chemically and physically using different techniques and comparing the product with the requirements of international and local specifications for the cement industry.
