A panel discussion at the University of Basrah on (a sedimentary, mineral and fossil study of selected islands of the Shatt al-Arab)

The Department of Geology at the College of Science organized a panel discussion entitled (A sedimentary, mineral and fossil study of selected islands of the Shatt al-Arab). The seminar, in which the researcher Ayat Hassan Ali lectured, aims to know the nature of sedimentation, the sources of sediment in the islands, the origin and formation of the Shatt al-Arab islands, the most important fossils found in the islands, and their relationship to the origin of the formation of the islands.
The study included the use of volumetric analysis of sediments according to the method mentioned in (Folk, 1974), determination of sediment texture using the taxonomic triangle of (Folk, 1974), and calculating statistical volume coefficients using the method (Folk and word, 1957).
The results revealed that silt predominated over clay in the islands of Muhammediyah and Sinbad, but in Salihiya Island, the predominance of clay was over silt, because the currents velocity is calm and the load is low in the Shatt al-Arab, and the sorting was very poor, indicating a calm sedimentation environment.
