Zainab Kadhim Zbala Al-Khazragie and Prof. Dr.  Bushra K. Al-Salami and Prof. Dr. Adnan J. M. Al-Fartosy published a paper entitled (Synthesis, Characterization, Antioxidant, Antimicrobial and Toxicity Properties of Novel Δ2-1,3,4-thiadiazoline and Δ2-1,3,4-selenadiazoline derivatives) in the International Journal of Drug Delivery Technology, which is indexed in Scopus (Q3) database.  The study aims to the synthesis of a series of 1,3,4-thiadiazoline and 1,3,4-selenadiazoline compounds which were synthesized in good yields by heterocyclization of thiosemicarbazones and selenosemicarbazones with acetic anhydride, respectively. The thiosemicarbazone and selenosemicarbazone compounds were prepared by condensation reaction of thiosemicarbazide and selenosemicarbazide with aromatic aldehydes in acidic medium.  The results pointed that the 1,3,4-selenadiazoline compounds containing selenium were less toxic than its analogues containing sulphur based on the LD50 value using Dixon's up and down method.  The 1,3,4-thiadiazoline and 1,3,4-selenadiazoline compounds showed antibacterial properties, and these compounds showed a good antioxidant activity but at a lower rate than the standard compound BHT.
