The University of Basrah organizes a seminar entitled (The Role of Endophytic Fungi in Plant Protection).

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (The Role of Endophytic Fungi in Plant Protection) by the PhD student Alaa Alauldeen Maatoq. The study aims to highlight the role of endophytic fungi that living within plant hosts in (medical, environmental, and agriculture application) and what are their environment and types of plants where you are .Most of the species belonged to the group of ASCOMYCOTA from fungi ,and the knowledge of their relationship with the plant was either(symbiotic, commensalism and parasitism) or an antagonistic relationship with pathogenic fungi. The reason for this is due to produce secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids,….. which have a role in many fields such as pharmacology by producing antibiotics, anticancer agents and immunosuppressant; environment by bioremediation for toxins degradation and hydrocarbons; agriculture by increasing plant immunity and resistance to plant pathogens.
