The visit of the First Deputy Governor of Basrah to the seismic monitoring laboratory in the College of Science

The First Deputy Governor of Basra, Dr. Durgham Al-Ajwdy, visited the seismic monitoring laboratory in the Department of Geology at the College of Science at University of Basrah. He was received by the Head of the Geology Department, Dr. Alaa Mohsen Al-Abadi, and the supervisor of the seismic monitoring laboratory, Dr. Wathiq Ghazi Abdulnabi. The purpose of the visit is to inform the local government about the seismic reality of the southern region of Iraq and the Basrah Governorate in particular, as a result of the region's exposure to earthquakes in recent years.

Dr. Wathiq explained the extent of the spread and distribution of seismic activity in Iraq and presented a map of modern seismic hazards, on which he showed that the areas most vulnerable to seismic events are located in the eastern parts of the Maysan Governorate and the areas north of Basrah.
