A master thesis defense discusses the Biological Activity Study of Some Organotellurium Compounds

The department of Chemistry at the University of Basrah/ college of science has organized a master thesis defense entitled: Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Activity Study of Some Organotellurium Compounds Derived from Pyrazole, presented by Amaal  Hussien Sheaa.

In this study Eleven organotellurium compounds were synthesized, including a new ketone alkyl tellurocyanate that was used to make a substituted pyrazole containing tellurium by reacting it with hydrazine derivatives, latter, A new series of organotellurium compounds with the pyrazole ring with the formula ArTeX3, Ar2Te2, Ar2Te, and Ar2TeX2 was created.

The prepared compounds were diagnosed using spectroscopic methods such as mass spectrometry, proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-rays. The prepared compounds were tested for biological activity against one types of gram positive and two types of gram-negative bacteria and one type of fungi. Measure the minimum concentration of inhibition. The prepared compounds were characterized by their ease of preparation and their high yield.

The results also showed that the prepared compounds possessed a high biological activity compared to fluconazole.
