The lecturers in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra, Dr. Maitham Abdullah Ghaley and Rehab Nassir Yunis, participated in the Second International Conference on Environment and Marine Sciences, which was held at the College of Science.

The participation included a lecture entitled impact of salinization on the reestablishment of benthic diatom communities in Shatt Al-Arab River after desiccation.

The lecture included introducing diatoms and considering them as vital indicators of the aquatic environmental state.

It aims to determine the ability of diatoms to recover after being exposed to extreme or severe environmental stresses such as drought and salinity.
