Research for a higher diploma at the University of Basrah

The higher diploma research in the Department of Ecology, College of Science at the University of Basra discussed the use of Conocarpus lancifolius Engl.& Diels. as an accumulation of pollution in Basra Governorate.

The research of the student Hawra Hassan Nasir showed that the agricultural areas are more polluted with heavy metals than the desert areas.

The study aimed to determine the importance C. lancifolius in the accumulation of pollutants and compare it with some trees growing in the study area.

The study concluded that most of the soils of Basra Governorate suffer from heavy metal pollution, and the C. lancifolius tree is more accumulating pollutants, so it is one of the important filters for pollution.

The study recommended paying attention to planting the C. lancifolius trees in areas of pollution, such as a green belt around the province, and paying attention to the landscaping of streets, parks and public places.
