A master's thesis at the University of Basra discusses the effectiveness of using alternatives to antifungals of plant origin to treat pathogenic fungi.

A master’s thesis at the College of Science at the University of Basra discussed the evaluation of the effectiveness of extracts of Matricaria chamomilla flowers on some types of fungi isolated from different clinical infections. The fungi were sensitive to chamomile flower extracts. The thesis aims to find an alternative treatment of plant origin that has an anti-fungal effect. The thesis concluded the effectiveness of both the raw extracts of the chamomile plant and the flavonoid extracts in particular against the isolated fungi. The thesis recommended the use of flavonoids extracted from the flowers of the chamomile plant in the production of antifungal drugs to be alternatives to industrial antifungals that have harmful side effects on humans.
