The Faculty of science at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled: mineralogical and chemical assessment of limestone deposits in the zerbatya region-eastern Iraq for the purposes of making conventional Portland cement. The seminar presented by PhD student Ahmed Osama Abdul-Qahar aimed to provide a detailed mineralogical and chemical study for the purposes of evaluating limestone rocks in different compositions as raw materials for the cement industry.. The study included the preparation of several different mixtures with the addition of some corrected materials and burning them according to a special burning program. The study reached the preparation of several types of clinker and achieve the best required properties of cement produced according to the required international specifications.
